Michelle Obama as a Bubblehead

by

via WorldNetDaily, Pat Buchanan wonders aloud what would happen if the media mocked Michelle Obama with even a degree of what they’ve treated Sarah Palin to.  Buchanan also serves up a nice dose of reality on how the media has treated “insinder” Joe Biden (with fawning indulgence) and the “outsider” Sarah Palin (with sneering intolerance).  He writes in part:

Perhaps the only institution in America whose approval rating is beneath that of Congress is the media.

Both have won their reputations the hard way. They earned them.

[…]

The people apparently had a “right to know” of Bush’s old DUI arrest a week before the 2000 election, but no right to know about how and when Obama was engaged in the criminal use of cocaine.

The media cannot get enough of the “Saturday Night Live” impersonations of Palin as a bubblehead. News shows pick up the Tina Fey clips and run them and run them to the merriment of all.

Can one imagine “Saturday Night Live” doing weekly send-ups of Michelle Obama and her “I’ve never been proud” of my country, this “just downright mean” America, using a black comedienne to mimic and mock her voice and accent?

“Saturday Night Live” would be facing hate-crime charges.

How do we know? When the New Yorker ran a cartoon of Michelle in an Angela-Davis afro with an AK-47 slung over her shoulder, New Yorker editors had to go on national television to swear they were not mocking Michelle, but the conservatives who have so caricatured Michelle and the Messiah.

Is there a media double standard? You betcha.

They make fun of Palin because she is a caricature already. Honestly, blaming the media is not going to resolve the fact that McCain chose a woman who is highly unqualified. Personally, my issue with her is the fact that she can not be that intelligent. She still thinks that abstinence only education is the way to go when not only science but her own personal life have shown differently. She thinks that schools should teach Creationism, yet if you go to any natural history museum, you can see a skeleton that shows something quite different. Banning books and limiting freedom of speech is not the way to improve our country. Everyone is so worried about Barack being a Socialist but Palin’s beliefs remind me quite a lot of how Communist countries treat the press and traditional civil liberties that we have enjoyed so freely here.
I believe pulling the sexist card for Palin is ridiculous. I have dealt with sexism, and that is not what is occurring in her case. She is unqualified, she is a poorly chosen pawn. I honestly lost all respect for McCain when he chose her because I felt as though he questioned the intelligence of every woman out there. Palin will do nothing positive for women; instead she will reverse what our mothers and ourselves have worked so hard to fight for. There is nothing wrong with being a feminist, it is just the radical idea that women are people too. I know that there will probably be quite a bit of negative feedback about my post if there is any at all, but that is the wonder that is our government. I have the right to say what I believe, and you have the right to say what you believe. Hopefully we can all learn a little something from each other.

    Exactly right.
